Revolver, Colt Prototype for Presentation Model Single Action Army prepared for President Ronald W. Reagan, serial number RR-1, made by Colt Industries in Hartford, Connecticut, 1984. Decorated with engraved designs by Alvin A. White. Inscribed on plaque: Ronald Reagan / 40th / President / of the / United States / From / Colt’s Pt. FA Mfg. Co. / 1984
Ronald Reagan first gained national attention as an actor. Although he was featured in a variety of genres, he made his biggest impression as a screen cowboy in such films as Law and Order (1953) and Cattle Queen of Montana (1954). After his entertainment career, Reagan served two terms as governor of California from 1967 to 1975. In 1980, Reagan was elected President of the United States in a landslide over incumbent President Jimmy Carter. He was elected to a second term by an even larger margin in 1984. During his presidency, Reagan spent many days working and vacationing at the "Western White House," his Rancho del Cielo in Santa Barbara, California. Continuing a company tradition, Colt prepared a Single Action Army in honor of Reagan’s presidency. However, the presentation never occurred, and this is the actual revolver intended for the president.
