Basket with lid made by Kelly Church (Odawa ((Ottawa) / Ojibwa (Chippewa)), 2009. Black ash splints plated in a porcupine curl technique, two miniature baskets made in same technique attached to a lid, acquired by the Museum 2009. Strawberry baskets are traditionally given to newborns, placed with loved ones after they die, or given as wedding gifts. The basket was created for the exhibition The Art of Native American Basketry: A Living Tradition, 2009.
