Charles Lewis Tiffany and John B. Young founded Tiffany & Young, a stationery and fancy goods store, in New York City in 1837. Charles Tiffany gained control of the company in 1853, renaming it: Tiffany & Company. The firm supplied the U.S. Army with swords, flags and surgical instruments during the mid-1800s.
