Remarks

After an early life as a frontiersman, Crockett served in the United States army under Andrew Jackson, then had three terms in United States Congress. After he failed in a 4th congressonal bid, Crockett left for Texas, where he died during the siege of the Alamo. During his lifetime, he was viewed as a symbol of the common man in western politics. After his death, he came to be considered a hero of the American frontier.
