Remarks

Victory Optical Manufacturing Co. was founded in 1941 by Vincent J. Salierno. He immigrated from Italy as a young man and learned about plastics while working for DuPont. After leaving the plastic manufacturer, Salierno learned the trade by handcrafting optical frames and quickly parlayed his craftsmanship and experience into an successful business based in Newark, New Jersey. He brought his two sons-in-law into the business, and together they expanded the company into a nationwide enterprise with offices across United States as well as in Havana, Cuba. Victory Optical was one of the first American eyeglass manufacturers to sign designer licenses and work with Geoffrey Beene, one of the leading fashion designers of the time. In 1989, the company ceased production, but family remained in industry. Recently, Salierno's grandson, William Marfuggi, resurrected the family business under name Victory Optical Collection, specializing in retro-styling using the most successful company designs from past decades.
