Emmi Whitehorse was born in 1957, in Crownpoint, New Mexico and is a member of the Navajo Nation.. In 1980, Whitehorse earned her bachelor of arts degree in painting from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. She earned her masters of art degree in 1982, also from UNM, major in printmaking with minor in art history. She currently lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico
