The mother of Maggie Mayo died shortly after her birth, around 1870, and Maggie was raised by her mother’s sister, Tunnie Bagley. In 1889, Maggie married Ben James, and they had five children. Ben died in 1945, but Maggie never remarried. She sold most of her baskets to Margaretta Park Dressler, a wife of local rancher and a Nevada state senator William F. Dressler. Meggie also received a fairly consistent patronage from Mrs. George Pope of San Francisco, who come frequently to visit Lake Tahoe. Maggie died in 1952.
