The demand for revolvers for use in the Mexican-American War provided Samuel Colt the opportunity to return to gun making in 1847. Colt eliminated the problems associated with his early revolvers through research and development. He also benefited from the use of state of the art machinery and interchangeable parts. The success of the revolver allowed Samuel Colt to incorporate Colt’s Patent Fire Arms Manufacturing Company in 1855. The company continues to operate to this day.
