Remarks

From nineteenth-century Wild West shows to contemporary Western movies, the firearm most commonly used by Western entertainers is the Single Action Army. A single action revolver requires the user to manually cock the hammer before the trigger can be used to fire the revolver, so Western entertainers often "fan" the hammer with their free hand to fire rapidly. This practice is extremely inaccurate and was rarely used on the American frontier.
