Learn More -- The Colt Revolver in the American West -- Continuing the Colt Tradition -- Speed versus Accuracy
Term

Speed versus Accuracy

Qualifier

Greg Martin Colt Gallery

Remarks

Double action revolvers can be fired simply by pulling the trigger, whereas single action revolvers require the user to manually cock the hammer. Double-action revolvers can be fired quicker but are often less accurate than single action revolvers. Colt introduced double action revolvers to its production line in 1877. Although Colt single-action revolvers remain popular in the West, double-action revolvers have become the standard throughout the country.
