Remarks

The rampant colt trademark, a horse with a broken spear standing on its hind legs with its forelegs in the air, is one of the most respected and recognizable corporate symbols in American history. Samuel Colt used it as early as the 1830s to promote his revolvers. Colt also publicized his revolvers through the use of broadsides, lithographs, and other advertisements. The revolver’s association with the American West was and continues to be a key selling point.
