Learn More -- The Colt Revolver in the American West -- The Paterson Colt
Term

The Paterson Colt

Qualifier

Greg Martin Colt Gallery

Remarks

Headquartered in Paterson, New Jersey, the Patent Arms Manufacturing Company produced the first Colt revolvers (commonly called Paterson Colts) from 1836 to 1842. Although it was financially unsuccessful, the company’s opening was a watershed moment in the history of the American West. In July 2014, the Autry will unveil a special installation that examines Samuel Colt’s first attempt at mass production. The installation will feature revolvers and related historical artifacts recently donated to the museum from the world-renowned Dennis A. LeVett Collection.
