- Remarks
The Great Basin Indian culture area lies in western North America between the Sierra Nevada and Rocky Mountains. It includes all of present-day Nevada and Utah, and parts of other surrounding states. For centuries, the Great Basin peoples relied on gathering local plants and seeds, hunting and fishing. After the arrival of the domesticated horse in the 17th century, some Great Basin peoples began hunting buffalo like those on the Plains.
