Remarks

C.H. Hyer and Sons began as the Hyer Boot Company in 1874. Brothers Charles H. and Edward Hyer founded the company in Olathe, Kansas. Initially, the company employed a majority of immigrant craftsmen from Germany, Sweden, and Poland. It produced boots for men ranging from cattlemen to rodeo performers to movie stars. Hyer is credited as being one of the first to invent the Cowboy boot, with its pointed toe, high slanted heel, and high scalloped top. Charles Hyer died in 1921 and his sons took over the business. In 1977 the Hyer name was sold to the Ben Miller Boot Company of El Paso, Texas.
