Remarks

Frémont led military and geographical expeditions with the United States Corps of Topographic Engineers across the western United States during 1840s. Along with Charles Preuss, he published maps that were the basis for all other maps of western United States in the mid-19th century. In June of 1846, he led the Bear Flag Rebellion in Sonoma California, against the Mexican government.
