Remarks

Carson fled his apprenticeship to a saddlemaker, and became involved with mountain men in New Mexico, southern Arizona and California. He served as a guide to John C. Frémont, helped establish the Bear Flag Republic, and served as an Indian agent for northern New Mexico. Carson then fought the Mescalero Apaches and Navajos during the Civil War. Carson City, Nevada is named after him.
