Founded by Burt and Elmer Underwood in 1882, originally as a distributing company for stereoviews taken by other photographers, including Charles Bierstadt, J.F. Jarvis and the Littleton View Company. By the 1890s Underwood had its own staff of photographers (including Burt), and was publishing 25,000 stereographs a day in 1901, and 10 million views a year, easily making them the largest producer of stereoviews in the world. http://www.megaone.com/yellowstone/publishers/underwood.html
