The older brother of artist Albert Bierstatdt, Charles started his first studio in New York City, before moving to Niagra Falls to service the tourist trade. He made stereoviews of Niagra Falls, Israel, North Africa, various parts of California, and Yellowstone National Park. Bierstadt appears to have sold photographs through T.W. Ingersoll, and from the late 1880s until about 1900, his stereoviews were officially distributed by Underwood & Underwood.
